Snippets on Automobiles

THE recent Auto Expo in New Delhi offered a glimpse of the industrial transformation that has overtaken the automobile of today. The range of new concept cars and the wide array of other vehicles on display reflected the hi-tech edge the automotive indus try has achieved. The most important concerns for the industry are environment and fuel conservation; its most pressing challenge is to produce economical, energy-efficient vehicles.

  THE splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen is one of the most elementary but challenging experiments in chemistry. While the importance of oxygen needs no emphasis, the potential use of hydrogen in different applications has been an important focus of research for some years now.

PUBLIC sector undertakings/units attached to the Department of Shipping have been allowed to place orders for ships, dredgers, tugs, boats and so on with domestic public sector shipyards on nomination basis without resorting to the competitive bidding route.
EXPORTS by air from India are gradually becoming costlier as the air cargo carriers, mostly foreign airlines, have either hiked rates or are planning to do so on one pretext or the other.

THE Chennai Port Trust came in for a severe criticism from various sections of the trade and industry, when the productivity at the container terminal dropped to as low as 70 moves/crane/shift in July last year. The situation remained the same for the ne xt few months.
