THE Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), through its Industrial Liaison Programme (ILP), has entered into a collaborative arrangement with Satyam Computer Services Ltd to address the area of emerging technologies, with specific focus on mobile In ternet computing. The institute expects mobile computing will be the next wave, providing tremendous business opportunities.

INTEL is realigning its business by focusing on the Internet economy. The company has divided its business into four focus areas - client platform, server platform, networking and communication, and solution and services.
NETWORK Solutions Inc (NSI), global leader in Web address registration, is evaluating the possibilities of having a direct presence in India to cash in on the fast spreading Internet fever.

  LASTECH Systems (P) Ltd has launched its Web facility by which surfers may send and receive e-mail in Tamil without having to download separate fonts. According to Mr. M. Thulukkanam, Director, Lastech: ``Users will need to log on to www.tamilanjal.com, and use the instruction panel to key in e-mails in Tamil.''

  `THE Illinois-based Advanced Information Services (AIS) will be setting up the Watts Humphrey Software Quality Institute (SQI) in Chennai. Dr. Watts Humphrey is an expert on software quality, and the designer of the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM).
